Curtain Call

Curtain Call

Curtain Call

She was poetry in motion,

with a tenacity to be

whatever the camera wanted.

She was “Roslyn” in “The Misfits,”

the quintessential woman

with all the naivety of a child.

Inside, there was a spirit

ever longing to be free,

ever yearning to be more than just

the projected image

reflected in the telephoto lens.

She dreamed of perfection,

was desperate to cling to it

like Natalie Wood in “Splendor in the Grass”,

pacifying the reviews of movie critics

and gossipmongers

in an attempt

to validate her soul.

The Hollywood lights began to fade.

Her youth was spent

lost in a cocktail of champagne and pills,

of dreams and men

that never fulfilled her.

Her life was a stage.

And she was Norma Jeane.

Happy Birthday Norma Jeane....this is a wonderful tribute to the “Candle in the Wind”, to her beauty, her strength, her passion, her vulnerability, her need. She was loved but she was also abused. Kelly, you capture her spirit and her grace- “poetry in motion” in front of the camera. Your profound words move me deeply and portray the highs and lows of her life. Your last two lines are a celebration of her life. She smiles forever.

I am thrilled you enjoyed my tribute to her, Pat. Thank you so much!
and her allure of being a blond bombshell lives on, she was lonely alone and miserable so she turned to drugs and men for comfort for solace but in the end she was judged harshly. I read the memoir of her ex husband about her and her steamy extra marital affairs especially with the late president kennedy. it showed her discontentment and melancholia despite the fame and fortune her stardom brought her, still she was not able to see her purpose in life and that is how sad for her.

Kelly what a beautiful tribute to a beautiful person.
I freely admit it, as a teenager I was in love with
Marilyn and when she died i was heartbroken.

Take care - Dave
