This Love Ever Mine

This Love Ever Mine

A Poem by Kelly Scheppers
"

...a posthumous love letter to Keats

"

This Love Ever Mine

This love ever mine

was deserving of

a lifetime longer than

any words could pen

a sonnet

longer than

the cocooning of

a butterfly

from a chrysalis,

or the turning of

winter into spring

longer than

i could ever wish

to hold my breath,

to conceive of what

my heart would do

within its chest,

to beat without

the thought of you…

for to love again

would be to feel

the fluttering of

a wounded bird

that had come to rest

within my hands…

to conceive of what

my heart would do

within its chest,

to beat without

the thought of you.

Author's Note

Kelly Scheppers
I thought a little out of the box on this one. It’s a posthumous love letter to Keats, from his beloved, Fanny Brawne. But in writing it, I wanted it to be in Fanny’s voice, and from the twenty-first century. I wanted to express what Fanny must have felt, the heartache and pain of losing her only love…feeling as though they were cheated out of a lifetime together. I used the analogy of the wounded bird to reflect her hopelessness of ever loving again.

dear Kelly..it is lovely..musical natural rhythm in reading ..rare internal rhyme a delicate treat ..i am so moved by your V3 ...i would not change one thing about this poem ..repetition in closing works and strengthens your dear Fanny Brawne's heart broke melancholy ..i am inspired to go read Keats now...not only his poems but about his life a bit more ..thank you for sharing this Ms. Legs ;)

That second last stanza - holy wow it is good. I am imaging the heart as a wounded bird.
It may survive but never fly quite the same.

A wonderful poem. You had the feel of ancient writers in the words. The words had the feel of gentleness, hope and wishes. Thank you Kelly for sharing the amazing poetry. I enjoyed this one.

You are welcome Kelly.
Beautiful work. I have visited Keats House a couple of times. I have seen the ring that Keats gave Fanny. I am also a fan of Keats work. Tragic that he died so young. Even so, he left a wonderful legacy. I enjoyed this poem very much.

You are most welcome.
Kelly I think Fanny was guiding your hand from far beyond when you wrote this beautiful piece-Keats is one of my favourite romantic poets.

very impressive kelly, keats was a romanticist and you were able to express from fanny brawne in the present times, had keats been alive today maybe they are happily married and enjoying life together.

Oh my dear, dear friend.. you've near reached hed the mind and heart of that wonderful man, Mr. Keat! Your poem is written in and by Fanny's spiritr, adapted is as near perfect 'tone' ascan or could be. You'v ebrought her and her Creator's voice into Today and wrapped the whole into nothing less than BEAUTY. Thank you, thank you!

Love again... but that person
May not be as kind and understanding, and so forth. So it is not that easy to love if not reciprocated with love and kindness as before.
We could not blindly fall as we once did... and we were lucky... or perhaps we saved someone and they turned around and saved us. truly, Pat

It's funny and strange to think, that after reading this piece and your note, that my first thought is to congratulate you on finding her modern voice, while keeping the essence of their own time. Funny because, how would I know what her voice is like...just the same as never knowing what Keats, Dickens or anyone else from their times sound like, yet having a voice I hear their words in. a true mark of their class in my opinion.
Did anyone else hear her pain at the thought of the injured bird?
Beautiful write Kelly.
