A couple in our area recently celebrated 72 years of marriage, no doubt his kisses may now be the pecks of a bird, but glowing embers produce the tastiest meal. ;P Well done, Kelly

Wow, 73 years...that's quite an accomplishment! Thank you, Ted!
The losses counted in time of a love when it becomes association by rote. This is one of the true tragedies of life. I love this poem. It bears witness to this loss of love but it is beautiful in its own right.

I was once told that age is a matter of mind. If you don't mind, it doesn't matter!

it is sad indeed when love turns to habit, from passion to simple embers... this doesn't have to happen, though it does far too often I think... one of the things that always got to me was seeing a couple sitting in a restaurant and not speaking or even looking at each other as though words have left them... I know you don't always have to speak, but usually the silence comes with a touch, a look, a smile or some other form of affection...
anyway, I think your poem is nicely done Kelly, and leaving me empty even if she does "fly someday"....

"You used to bring me flowers..." - Streisand and Diamond's version always gets to me and this struck those exact same chords Kelly.

This is more like hanging on to the idea of love than to finally let it go. An interesting metaphor you've used here which I found quite fascinating!
I think real love strengthens over time..
A lovely piece. I enjoyed reading this 😊👍

Thank you for acknowledging the metaphor!
Ah how 'love' cools from the heady days of early romance until it withers on the vine of acquiescence. Nicely portrayed in another flowing verse Kelly!
