is camouflaged

underneath

a bed of lies

 

no one sees

the true facade

 

there are scars

I think you capture the essence of this in a freeze frame of a short verse description Kelly. I did play with the thought of 'You're Beautiful' as in the tension between the words and the deeds of perpetrators. I was once subjected to domestic abuse, although my wife at the time had a major illness. It is not an easy thing to deal with.

In writing this, my intent was to portray domestic violence. Then as I was posting it, I realized it could also be the voice to child abuse. It gave me chills...it still does. Thank you so much, Tony!

I felt this. I had a parent who had anger probs and used a leather belt but he was trying to raise a big family in a war zone and that had a huge influence on his behaviour. I hit him back aged 15 an we never spoke for 20 years. I have forgiven him and we are good friends now. I wonder what I would have done, how I would have handled it...
I don't think it's ever cut and dried.

What's not seen is too often the greatest of all scars. No matter the actual shade, they colour life itself, they diminish. This poem seems to be a plea for renewal somehow.. for wanting to start again or walk away, if one ever can.
