Lady Gray

My Irish soul feels gray today

sorting through greeting cards

and ornaments

putting Christmas away for another year

Such melancholy wears me thin

as a flood of memories present themselves

in a times square fashion

by the stroke of twelve

I’ll be barefoot in jeans,

tipping my brimmed fedora

to the orchestration of Auld Lang Syne

sipping a chilled Zinfandel…

aimlessly lost in you.

Amazing I'm digging back in your archives & I find one about New Years, which is coming up shortly! I love the particular assortment of imagery you put together -- one of your main strengths -- choosing for maximum impact & visualization. I don't see you around much these days (2020 trounced many), so I'll wish you a good one early & here's hoping we see more of you in 2021! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Your review couldn't mean more to me, no matter when it was posted. Thank you so much, Gordon!
I'm sipping with you here, toasting to another great coming year of finding the soul of Kelly rendered from the beauty of her mind.

Love,
Al

May the new year hold much joy for you & Jackson...and the warmth of friendship! x
This has a sad but whimsical surrender to it Kelly. A bowing to the inevitable and a regret for the passing of time as the protagonist reflects on the year gone but recognises life goes on, love goes on.

Please beware that KT Little is still operating ion the cafe and cloned Wordman's page and mine then sent reviews to discredit me. If you click on the url with my picture and name it will be 'passionidiot'

...what a surprise it is seeing you! Thank you, John!
Love this nostalgic, bittersweet write, Kelly. I am happy to see it all end on a good note, though. A little Zinfandel can go a long way. Hope your New Years was a happy one!

How sweet of you to say, Dara...thank you so much!
Such sweet melancholy on display. I love the way you've described this woman, and the task of packing away another year and all it brought with it.

She is me, actually. I write about myself from time to time. Thank you so much, Ana!

Yeah, I figured but I never want to assume. :)
The end of the Christmas season, New Year's has become a trial to get through without dozing off (made it this year). We had snow this year for the holidays. Looked good until Dec.27th and then I'd be more than happy to trade a Canadian winter for St. Thomas. Good write

I confess the older I get the more relief I feel when I chuck the tree out the door. Sounds mean, but once the kids are grown, I don't plan to spend Christmas anywhere but on a beach, and New Years in the ocean. :)

Wrapping up the holidays...knowing another year is about to begin and realizing this IS all there is. A bit sad, but those last two lines lead me to believe there was romance in between the lines. So lovely, Kelly. Lydi**

Perhaps a little reminiscent of "the one that got away", and how we often wonder. Thank you, Lydi!
Ah yes, there is a feeling of nostalgia and sentimentality about the passing of the old year, the coming of the new.
