Of Which Nothing Compares

Of Which Nothing Compares

A Poem by Kelly Scheppers

Of Which Nothing Compares

I smell the rain,

like a child smells a flower.

Its scent wafts through me

like coffee brewing,

like home-made cookies

fresh from the oven,

or grandfather’s pipe…

like a Douglas Fir tree

in the middle of December,

or the scent of a baby’s head,

of which

 nothing compares.

Your poem stimulates the senses with all those familiar special ones that I can so relate to. I also just became a grandmother and smelling the top of her tiny head fills with me joy beyond compare. This is a keeper for me.

Thank you Kelly, will do :-)
dear Kelly... "Scent of a woman" is a movie that
comes to mind... the scent of a Douglas fir is
a December gift. The scent of a wood fire and coffee
brewing... love ensuing. You are as awesome as a baby's scent
and a meadow of bluebells well spent... truly, Pat

You are welcome ...
Hi Kelly,

Your simplicity overcomes the heart. The poem visits the juncture where little meets big.

Love,
Al

...as you are, as well! xo
The sense of smell, linked to memory and emotion, is a powerful thing indeed. The simple things are often the best, and most moving. The scent of a baby's head is truly magical! Beautifully written Kelly!

Thank you for welcoming me back, Kelly!
There are some scents we both instantly recognize and crave. You have captured this beautifully in words.

You are a welcomed sight...and I thank you!
some of the best scents of life---nothing does compare---i have a few others i thought of---so many simple things that are wonderful and often underappreciated because we are always so much on the run.
