An Icon

An Icon

A Poem by Kelly Scheppers
"

...a tribute to Marilyn

"

A diffused light, shining

beneath a door…

A mattress, sitting

on hardwood floor.

Sheets of white

were clinging to…

the porcelain skin,

the perfection of

an icon.

Author's Note

Kelly Scheppers
I wrote this after seeing pictures of Marilyn's room that night. The housekeeper had mentioned seeing a light shining beneath her door at some time during the night, and when her bedroom was shown, a mattress was sitting on a hardwood floor with no frame. Then there was the white sheets on the bed...

...thank you, Christine!
She is most definitely an icon:)
I have drawn so many portraits and hung so many
of her photos in my home, that my daughter assumed
she was her grandmother, lol:)
Thanks for sharing and b-blessed!

Short in simple yet expressed with such clarity and perfection that it leaves an impact in the reader's mind. Great way of wording.

That's very nice. You're welcome.
Marilyn was a true icon. She was unique. The look, the walk, the talk... all part of her charistamic appeal. But with Marilyn the whole was even greater than the sum of the parts. A beautifully written poetic piece, Kelly. Your choice of photo is a good one too, revealing the vulnerability of a great icon.

Marilyn always seemed to emit a white light.. from her platinum hair to her porcelain skin, the glittering gowns and white sheets on the bed. She had an inner light too and you always capture it, Kelly. Her essence lives on in your poems as much as in any photographer's lens.

Hard to believe she would have been 90 years old this past June!
Perfectly concise...36-24-36....I once dated a woman with the same measurements and modelling mannerisms of the Goddess Marilyn...her light still shines from inside my mind...you may notice it glimmer beneath my eyelids when I close them.

I truly believe had her marriage to Joe DiMaggio endured, she may well be alive today! Thank you!
Painfully beautiful. I can't help but think she was feeling so tired.

As always, still a fan of her? Quite admirable. Then I'm sure, her documentaries might be saved, stored & well structured in ur drawer (in chronic series)! An absolute treasure it is you waving in few jeopardy words just tryna sort out the soduko of her gone-life. Interesting, for sure, it is.

dear Kelly, I have always thought of
Marilyn as the girl next door... the
beautiful flowers in Spring... the waves
bursting on shore... sunshine and warm sand...
the perfect woman... a song of beauty...
