Leftover Love

Leftover Love

A Poem by Kelly Scheppers

Leftover Love

I never dreamed

you’d walk away

leaving me to figure out

the small stuff,

with empty bottles of Grey Goose Vodka

and a mattress fit for a King,

playing solitaire

upon the high thread count of sheets

of an unmade bed,

of a leftover love.

Kelly, very maudlin and poignant as the wording asks the reader to see it; extremely well-written as is the Kelly way. There are about 5 of my friends who, when I see on of their pieces in my RR queue, I get a little jolt of anticipation and eager for art. Yours is one of them. (the other 4 may never be revealed...because if anyone asks I will just say "Well of COURSE you're one of the other 4, silly!"
Such a well done piece, Kelly. May I save it into my Library Favorites? Thank you! take care...dan

Disillusionment, you capture that beautifully here. Unmade and leftover, 2 similar concepts that make for a perfect ending.

There is a degree of introspection that overpowers the sadness of the situation. You can feel that the character will overcome this.

Well done.

Beautiful photo and honest words. Large lonely bed and vodka. I knew this place a time or two. Amazing poetry dear Kelly.

You are welcome Kelly and have a safe and fun New Years.
melancholy sadness ...way too big a bed ... my head is throbbing as I am not a very good drinker .. 2 beers is my limit for any one time :} i get stuck on the pic ..keep having to check to see if i missed something ;) i can't quite put my finger on it but this is not a favorite of yours ... i think "playing solitaire" is the strongest line ... maybe to many "ofs" in the closing three lines ... not sure ..perhaps i just need to come back again with another state of mind ... you always set a mood Kelly! and i feel sad ... and want to ask that girl in the pic if she has a problem with age :)))))

I agree, Ed. Sometimes we just need to get our head out of the clouds. Thanks so much!
wow, that empty bottle of vodka, playing solitaire...one heart that became part of two, and now is one again...on an awfully big bed with much too much room...

Beautifully written, emotion charged words, conveying in a few lines what some fail to say in book length form. We can all relate to the emptiness of that bed and how we haven't got the energy left to make it for just one.
