Georgia Summers

Georgia Summers

A Poem by Kelly Scheppers

Georgia Summers

Georgia summers

were as piquant as

a mint julep in July.

Languid days of skinny-dipping,

where temperatures were as high as

the traversing of hands

 underneath a skirt

of fettered gauze.

Oh yes, a little southern comfort. Good for the soul, isn't it? Thanks so much, Ken!
Brevity, beauty and basic yearning hand in hand in your poem, Kelly. You truly are a Wonder Woman with a quill!

Wow . . . wouldn't have thought you would take us where you were going when I started reading.
Must say the images are strong . . . and the right word choice. Good poem.

Exquisite and elegantly sensuous. Great form, cadence, flow and lovely, lazy, lascivious (?) imagery. Brava Kelly!

Thank you, Annette. It was most kind of you!
I'm gulping now. Sultry is not the word but as near as I can get damn it. I refuse to say Hot as its too crass.
So many things come to mind here. I am lifting my hat to wipe my face with my hankerchief like Rod Steiger.
thinking I look cool. I am listening to 'Somewhere down that crazy river'. I am swinging on the porch swing and I am watching the Summer of 42. And I am waiting for her to pass with a towel under her arm and that look in her eye.

Thank you Kelly for transporting me from a cold, cold night in sub-zero UK temps to balmy, sexy, sultry Georgia --- more lemonade in your Tom Collins my dear ...
