I Would Have Given You My Swing

I Would Have Given You My Swing

A Poem by Kelly Scheppers

I Would Have Given You My Swing

Had we played on the same playground
l would have given you my swing.
l would have chased you down
till you could run no more,
for just a kiss
the slightest touch.

I would have captured fireflies in a mayonnaise jar
perhaps a monarch butterfly, or two
and carved the words, “l love you
in the bark of a sycamore tree,
for all to  see.

For just a smile,
the slightest touch…

l would have given you my swing.

There is such a pure tenderness in your thoughts... a beautiful, loving light... Brought back the sweetness of loving before love became so complicated... sigh...

You write so well. You bring the reader in and make them feel part and parcel of the theme of the poem. Splendid work

How wonderful seeing you, Terry! Thank you so much!
Oh the power of young, innocent love. Before the erotic animalistic base feelings that we feel when we get older and get lost in, there was this. It was so long ago, a person can forget what it feels like. When reading this aloud this really sounds great to the ear. Thanks Kelly. CD

Ohh... this poem got me suspended in midair, kissing each cloud and adorning the sky with heartfelt laughter...as far as the fireflies - I would let all of them go free :):)

You are welcome Kelly. I liked the poem. A old fashion feel to the words.
Wonderful sentiment Kelly - so innocent and yet so deep. I love the playpark metaphor - its delightful on a sunny spring day like today. I want a go on the swings now.

Hi Kelly. Sometimes the words that send trembles down one's arms, are the most simple!!! This is what effect the reading of your poem had on me, so what might it do to the addressee of your tender poem??? A truly inspiring write!!! raising the bar, yet again!!! alf

lol ..yes a warning "my induce childhood memories: lol
You better know, how to 'swing' around peoples hearts by means of your poetic / magnified art / talent. So smooth / touching / refractive / gleam-y / soft & mesmerizing words you do choose to write along. It makes my heart saying ... "Alas" - The touch of frequent ""Ah"" with delight & smiles. I must say, your poetry tells to me to... compare the write with the feather / quill of white arctic flying bird whose wings 'swing' even the winds / the air with the loaf of much softness... around the skies. Beautiful poetry you've come up with. Enjoyed reading your words.
