Wild Horses

Wild Horses

A Poem by Kelly Scheppers
"

...inspired by my favorite Stones song

"

Wild Horses

It was our song,

The idiosyncratic sound

of jagger,

the virtual stampede upon my heart

of wild horses

you hummed it

Night and day,

Strummed it upon your air guitar

as I rode your body

with the gesticulation of hips,

to thunderous rifts

of weeping guitars

and bleeding verse.

you broke my stride

the willingness of my gait,

allowing me to slip through your hands

the needle skips

across the vinyl now,

a sweeping exit.

I couldn't help but think of two lovers so enraptured with love making that they knocked the little record player off the night stand,

And, in theory, that kind of sounds like what happened.....

Lost and broken now are the missing sounds of love lost and broken,

Excellent poetry.

OH my!!! The needle skips across the vinyl now.....that says it all. Bittersweet reflection. So sensual. The "bleeding verse" of the Stones inspired many a passionate night back then....and still inspires poetry. Wonderful work, Kelly. Lydi**

Hi Kelly. Loved the images you have portrayed in this poem. I can feel the emotion at love lost . . . sadness, haunted by a theme and remembrances. Loved it, alf

What a sweet gentleman you are! Thank you!
It is interesting the associations we make, even after many years to the music of our youth. I liked Wild Horses, but I think from around that time Sympathy for the Devil is my favorite.
A well-written poem, as always Kelly.

I think it was one of the Stones best! Thank you, Jamestown!

I agree! Those stones:)
Nothing sounds worse than that 'sceeerchh' as the needle finds a groove that wasnt there at the outset. A great metaphorical poem Kelly. Nothing says freedom like the dust raised by a herd of wild equine spirits. Theres only one of you Kelly.

A beautiful homage to a great musical piece; a wonderfully crafted, sensual metaphor gallops through this piece as well. A very nice write Kelly.

Kelly, I love that song too, and I really like the horse metaphor for the "you" in the story. You have a unique style to your writing at times, and this one personifies that style. Breezy, running wild and free...like horses' manes in the soft wind. A delightful write that is going straight into my library. take care...dan
