Bastions of History

Bastions of History

A Poem by Kelly Scheppers

Bastions of History

My unrivaled heart

speaks in tongue of English lore,

fancies the  19th century frock

is beguiled by the romantic musings

of John Keats,

enraptured by the melodious offerings

of the distant nightingale

is held captive,

unchained and dauntless

by these

bastions of history.

You take the modern 21st century reader on a transient trip back to English medieval times when folk believed blue blood ran through the veins of noble knights and fine ladies most certainly dressed to impress!!

A delightfully penned poetic discourse of a heritage rich in the arts and formative English culture!

And that you did Kelly !
"frock" I just love that word and the images it conjures! You have always written of John Keats. I believe you and he must have been involved in another life, Kelly. Enchanting poetry. Lydi**

I also long to such lore, except I find myself stuck in the 16th century. You're a classy lady.

I appreciate that so much, thank you, Shane!
I don't think life
was ever simple...

Kelly, Very crafty idea to wish yourself immersed in a time in the distant past, the poetry, the garb and the expressions and attitudes of the time. The writing is so well done and the graphic you chose to accompany your words are so in tune that I can almost hear a mandolin and pan flute playing as a soundtrack, liltingly ethereal music. Beautiful, Kelly, well done. take care...dan

Lol, gotcha'!
A beautiful tribute to your beloved Keats and to those other "bastions of history." I love the style in which it is written, reminiscent of the era.

I've always been in love with this period in our history and certainly enjoyed the descriptions of your heart's desire. Nicely written indeed.

So kind of you to say...thank you so much!
Ah, La belle dame sans merci, You kill me with the images you offer... castles, Keats, and the immortal Bird! None of these things are born for death while we continue to remember them. It is a lovely period to immerse oneself in. I am reading Diana Gabaldon's Outlander at the moment and the images of the 18th century are beguiling for me, though Keats is nowhere to be found. Beautiful words, Kelly!
