Hemingway once wrote,
“…there is no friend as loyal as a book.”
Perhaps he never knew Andrea,
or looked into the circumference of her face.
For it is there that my sentences run…
where the pages of Webster fail to categorically define
the introduction of her smile.
Where a myriad of words tether me
to a Microsoft page,
and I am bound to the wafts of her laughter
like Hemingway’s fisherman was - to the sea.
“…no friend as loyal as a book.”
Perhaps he never knew Andrea.
Andrea was my son's Kindergarten teacher. We were the best of friends, until she was tragically killed by a drunk driver. It is her laughter that remains with me...

The connections here pleased me and made me smile until I read your author's notes. That turned the whole thing on its head and clouds covered the sea.
Tragic, honest and quite lovely. I still like the connections with Papa.

A beautifully penned heartfelt elegy to an inspirational and trusted friend, so tragically and cruelly cut down in their prime..... A book can be a great friend but no substitute to human companionship...kudos indeed Kelly to your compassionate, free-flowing pen !

She lives within me...and always will. Thank you, Tom!
I believe Hemingway had his friend like Andrea. Lost in wars and his battle to know understanding. I understand the poem. Good people who had touched our life and left too soon. Leave us with regret and missing them. Thank you Kelly for sharing the amazing poetry. Good to keep the good people alive and well with words.

Your writing: You're telling a story through your poetry, you're delivering a message, and it stays there. Unlike any other poet, your poetry actually sticks in my head. I feel it, I understand it, I believe it. If you ask me what, or who's poems did you read yesterday? I might say, hell if I know, but what you write isn't easily forgotten. You share such beautiful stories with amazing passion. You're not just a poet, you're a storyteller, and a good one.
