Far More Beautiful Than I

Far More Beautiful Than I

A Poem by Kelly Scheppers

 photo Orchid-Study-IV-Canvas-Transfer-C10128451_zps37763e34.jpeg

Far more beautiful than I

Two doors down

and you hadn’t a clue

that I was the tabby cat

and the philodendron upon the sill

you were Sunday football games

and the vast delivery of pizzas,

whose friends were a mix gender

of low rise jeans

and Sam Adams

We merged occasionally

in the laundry room during the rinse cycle,

you complimented my taste in jazz

and the copper shine of auburn hair,

taking inventory of my eyes

and the nakedness of the third finger

of my left hand

you hadn’t a clue

that I was breakfast at tiffany’s,

that I am the happiest in the coldest of winters,

and cry at the singing of Auld Lang Syne

that I still wish upon falling stars,

and read poetry by Keats to his beloved, Fanny

that I love orchids

because they are far more beautiful than I

could ever be…

…will ever be

I love the spilling of your soul and the deepness of this write to an adventure of hearts. Young with that wishful auburn hair red head sassy and bright quick witted and smart know what you wanted from that start a little honesty and love mixed together would of stolen your heart away as a young woman by now you feel the need for love and understanding and respect goes a longer way these days. I loved this beautiful "mind movie," and I enjoyed falling deeper into the narrator's thoughts as the piece ends. I feel she knows herself well...even loves certain aspects of her personality...yet struggles with insecurities. Orchids are erotic and sophisticated...hard to live up to those little beauties! I enjoyed the imagery and magnetism...the energy between the two in the laundry room. I look forward to reading more of your writing. ~Larq

I have no way of knowing when this hit my RR list, but it is a beautiful still life snapshot of life... orchids are my favorite living thing and I admire them for the same reasons you do... I have some images I've taken of them at: https://www.etsy.com/shop/SugarloafStudios Some are featured but there are more on the last few pages... even some B&W (I know you like those).

Anyway, this piece highlights, for me, the distance between what the casual acquaintance knows about us and what is the real depths of our being can offer. It is a bittersweet thought that even our closest friends and lovers hardly ever plumb the true depths we have to offer. Great piece!

I just read another writer's piece in response to this one and can see why.. this is exquisite.. from the visual construction, the font, the phrasing, the imagery, the emotion, and the metaphor.. the references are creative, clever, and easy to relate to.. the emotion in this one is powerful and very moving.. it pulls on the heartstrings, increasing the tension throughout, then one small...little.. tug at the end sends us reeling.. it mixes sweet with that bitter edge, lifting with that dreamy, hopeful romanticism... I really enjoyed this.. Stunning!..

You're welcome, it was definitely a pleasure to read.
I really like this piece. It has a very lovely feel to it, snippets of reality, cleverly put together. A small note: pizza's should be pizzas

Such a down to earth piece about apartment dwelling, with just the right touch of individuality, this one shines Kelly.

Oh geez, you need help woman!
enjoyed very much Kelly, hm that distant love, such a sad thing but maybe thats just my experience, never quite saying the right thing at the right time, wishing to be with the object of desire but always falling away although i'm sure you are just as beautiful as the orchids really, a lovely poem, bravo.
