I'd Say I Love You...A Poem by Mariah
I’d say, “I love you,”
But I don’t know you All I know is of you I know that your embrace stills the tumultuous sea of my mind And as your lips press softly against mine The embers of my soul flicker and burn brightly, Illuminating the depths within And revealing a truth that awakens the body and paralyzes the mouth For the more we attempt to describe the feeling The further from the truth we become Because although we may be guided by the mind, we are ruled by the heart We may think the heart a fool for being swayed so easily, But it is the mind that makes man a fool For believing that our words pay homage to an emotion It is true, I am young Still ripe with unfettered curiosity And a passion for life that flows as freely as a river Shaping the landscape before it And yet despite my youth I have lived a thousand years beyond this lifetime, Only to become weary and jaded To the love that exists within the universe A love capable of piecing together the fragments of a broken spirit And guiding us out of the darkness of our minds In order to truly see all that is before us Thus as I look at you I am blind to who you were or who you will be And instead view only the beauty within your heart Which has smoothed the jagged edges of mine © 2015 Mariah |
