Flourescent

Flourescent

A Poem by Ally Monique
"

Sometimes, we fall in love with peoples vulnerability

"
Black silhouettes with whiskey in hand,
We are-
the dying flicker,
in these cosmic, sky-ridden lights.

Laughing louder than the fires flames,
we had-
made love to the thought of
infinite, vacant instances.

And for more than a single moment,
I was-
falling in love,
with the fluency of your vocal chords,
and the vulnerability in our veins.

Firepits and dancing ...flames
in the night's eyes -
starlight so bright the mind
blinks with tears
each tomorrow's morning.

I've tasted sunrise
in moments that haven't come
and left noseprints behind
on the glass of those that did.

I guess love is what we do
best
between moments of dark and
silly lost smiles
and wishes on falling stars
as footprints fade away.

Cliche, yet spot on. Somewhat like a game of darts knowing you'll hit the bullseye. I'd like to say you cheated us all by writing on such a common topic but hot damn did you nail it. It seems that young love always believes in the infinite. The never ending love story and how naive we people are to believe in such fake desires. Now don't get me wrong many a time love does last through the young year but not as much as all think it does. Starting your poetry with the idea of not being ourselves you add in the object of whiskey to portray our lack of consciousness to the situation in which we live. Furthering your imagery you then mention us as a dying flame to which was once lighting up the sky as love lights up our lives. Moving on to the second stanza you relate the good times to flames which destroy...like the love is being destroyed. The love is being destroyed by the good times and that is even further juxtaposed by the laughter which is positive...very confusing yet I like it. The last stanza is just hitting home as I''m writing this. I honestly have nothing to say about it because as my favorite stanza I feel I will take away from its genius by trying to decipher it.
