Broken Locks and RealityA Poem by OliviaNImagine an interrogation room. Imagine, the two way mirror, a table with chairs and the single door. Now imagine there is no mirror, only 4 walls and a door. Imagine the door has a small window, and deadbolt locks going up the side. Now fill the room with life. With animals, with music, with flowers, with family and friends. This was my life. It was perfect to me. It was normal. Then one day, I peered through the window of the door and locked eyes with a man. And in that moment, my world and everything in it disappeared. The music, was gone. The flowers, were gone. My paradise, was gone. The deadbolt locks had vanished, and the man entered the room. He closed the door behind him, and then faced me. As he approached the table, I stood. I smiled, as I laid out my entire life and everything in it, on the cold metal table. Everything I had to offer, was laid out in front of him. He poked around, commenting and asking questions. We laughed, as we shared thoughts, dreams, secrets, and ambitions. We had connected. Then, there was knock at the door. And as he walked toward the door, the atmosphere started to change. He opened the door and reality began to fill the room. It engulfed everything in sight. Except me. While under the intoxication of reality, the man looked at me and asked, "what am I doing?" He slowly backed out of the room, taking reality, and everything with him. The door closed. And the deadbolts reappeared. All that was left, was me. For months, a stale darkness had consumed the room. Until one day, through a crack in the ground, a flower emerged. And over time, this flower grew with vines and surrounding the floor and walls. Music began playing, people began dancing, and paradise was better than before. Life had risen again. But in the corner, near the door, a sliver of darkness remained. Leaving a reminder, to never let your guard down. © 2015 OliviaNReviews
