Limerick poems were drinking songs in pubs of Limerick, Ireland. The verses were usually quite course. They soon became a popular fad and when they got to America were cleaned up to a "G" rating.

I must admit limericks are some of my favorite types of poetry to read. It's always nice to read something deep and beautiful, but you need a good laugh every now and again to snap you out of all seriousness.
This one really had me laughing!
Also, very interesting note about the origin of limericks. I never knew that.
You learn something new every day, I suppose.
