Sting

Stinging nettles made me cry,
Then Mommy sang a lullaby
To help me forget about the sting.
Oh how I loved to hear Mamma sing.
One summer day I stepped on a bee
And daddy lifted me to his knee.
He stroked my hair to ease the pain,
Then gave me a stick of sugar cane.
That sting went away and off I ran
To play with my friends, "catch me if you can".
A jelly fish stung me on the toe.
My boyfriend kissed away the woe.
And quickly I forgot the sting
When he gave me an engagement ring.
But oh, this sting, this awful sting!
Can't be sung or kissed away.
It came in the form of a telegram
I got the other day.
Can there be a way to heal my heart?
Can they put my heart in traction?
For the words broke my heart,
those stinging words...
"Your son was killed in action."

I've been writing poetry since I was a child, but I still have a lot to learn. I like the old fashioned rhyme and meter style of poetry, but have tried my hand at Haiku and other styles. I hope to hon.. more..
