Tanscending the TitleA Poem by MsBonnThis poem is dedicated to every teacher who helped me to appreciate words, particularly Ms. Sarah Kranz, my high school English teacher.
Our names give us identity in the same way a writer's title gives his/her work identity. But can a wordsmith transcend identity? That is the question this poem asks as it pays tribute to the awesome audacity of words. As well, it celebrates the wonderful gift of being a wordsmith. If you are a true wordsmith, you will both understand and celebrate this poem.
TRANSCENDING A TITLE By Bonnie Davis I am a
WORDSMITH. I inhale the
breath of nouns and hallucinate
this and that pronoun, while inhaling
the fragrance of active verbs. I can taste
the flavor of adjectives and listen to adverbs
with my soul. My anointing
allows me to connect with prepositions and
conjunctions; lets me leap
high over damn!
interjections. My periods are
never final, but my commas give
me pause and cause. Words. I lift them; they cradle me in all of my emotion; then they soothe
me and smooth me with alliteration. Words. They construct
the sentences that string my
worlds together and transcribe
my languages into the paragraphs
of my lives… transcending my
titles, and makie every story epic… relevant… beautiful. © 2014 MsBonn |
