Annie Are You Okay?

Annie Are You Okay?

A Poem by Ms.Rodgers

She sits, and she breathes
It's an evening like any other
Or that's what she thinks.

He sits, and he waits
It's just a matter of time
A matter of time before his opportunity appears

The streetlights are dimming
Into the night, the daylight is swimming
Tree branches dance
Away the sunset does prance

The TV is on, muted
She hold a book in her hands
Legs crossed at comfort in her apartment

He waits, he's dressed for the occasion
He's ready
He's ready to make his move

The night is growing
Becoming silent, almost knowing
It's as if the night can feel it
It's in the darkness, that everything fits

She's unaware of the coming danger
She's unprepared for what will soon happen
She relays the events of her day

He enters into the silence
Footsteps ghosting along the floor
Ready to make a disturbance

Her scream shatters the night
It's a sound of pure fright
She runs for the table, fighting for her life
Trying to overcome the man with a knife

Her shrieks fill the night
Her hands clawing worthlessly for his face
The burn of fear deep in her chest

His laugh rings throughout the room
The knife solid in his hand
He makes his first move

Her screams fill the room
Knife entering her chest
 She meets her doom
Surely you know the rest

Silent heart
Sounding pulse
Palpitations growing
"Annie are you okay?"
"Are you okay Annie?"
