Noise and Sound

Noise and Sound

A Poem by Mry
"

The difference between noise and sound

"

Would it work

to do violence

to all that's not peaceful?

Would everything be okay

if I struck out

at everything unquiet?

This vibrating

in my head

doesn't belong here,

makes me not belong here

in the world where

real people live.

I don't live here much.

I'm not a real person

very often,

but I can be sometimes.

Sometimes,

when the howling

and the pounding

and the spinning,

spiraling vibrating

goes away.

Most of the time,

I'm a shadow,

a little clustered

colony of tendrilled daydreams

drifting along,

flickering

in and out

of whereever

I happen to be.

And these dreams,

they live on the noise,

on the howling,

the spinning...

If I strike out

at them,

maybe just once,

I'll glimpse

the life-or-death difference

between noise and sound.
