CarnavalA Poem by Mrudula RaniCarnaval in Brasil is a spectacular affair, and equal so grand productions of Hollywood+Bollywood!
With time many a thing changed, but the spirit of Carnaval hasn't!
It comes alive every year, still! The anticipation and the excitement are contagious. It is Four days of pure bliss! No cars on the streets, no pollution, and no noises; You can hear the sounds of birds, and even the silence! As if, temporarily the town seemed to have packed and left. Business and banks close for the duration as a holiday treat! People disappear to fazendas, and private clubs to drink, and to celebrate. Try finding an excuse, good enough to step outside of home you just can't! Carnaval parades on a large screen, supplies fully stocked, we nest! On the wide avenues ( sambódromos) of São Paulo, and Rio Spectacular floats mesmerize the public with their grandeur Midnight to dawn the voices of sambistas( vocalists)vibrate in the air Mulatas sculptured bodies sway, adorened in feathers and glitter, While their feet keep in step to the frenzy beat of samba. like once again, celebrating New Year in February! On Ash Wednesday' they sweep up the streets, Put away their costumes, And scrub off the makeup, and get back to duties, While carrying an eternal longing for carnaval in their hearts! Samba Schools are judged and given places of merit! The losers go home, hoping to do next year better! © 2018 Mrudula RaniAuthor's Note
