The PackA Poem by Mrudula Rani
The local gang of an odd mixture roams our neighborhood,
At night their conversations keep us up; for they are loud! Often they patrol, making nightly rounds. Three mixed breed pups, with lean frames and long legs, A Retriever and a Poodle make up the pack. The Poodle limps, I reckon an old injury, The Retriever always close by the Poodle when it sojourns Until the pair moves, pups stay put, patiently they wait. These lovable mutts have taken up shelter near the bridge in the shacks, For The scraps! Pet pooches from their warm, safe apartments often exchange barking rows With the pack! Perhaps their memories...? Or a warning the pack Partakes, The gang runs up and down the tracks of train, They spray the fence that separate street from the railway lines! They rest and roll in the wet grass that grows after showers thick and green! Sipping the brown puddles of rain, Like they haven't a care, lay on the hard dirt ground Sunning! Standing by the window, nine floors above I marvel at their unity! Barking at the strangers they show off their group's might. Their freedom stirs fear and joy in my heart, How safe are they from stone throwing strangers? and the reckless drivers? © 2017 Mrudula RaniReviews
