THE DAMAGE IS DONE AND IT WON'T BE THE SAME
MY HEART FOREVER BROKE AS YOU MENTIONED HER NAME
YOUR POETIC APPOLOGIES FELL ON DEAF EARS
THE SIGHT OF YOU KISSING ROLLED OUT WITH MY TEARS
THE TIME OF OUR LIVES WAS TOO SHORT TO NOTE
SO I ERASED OUR SONG THAT SOMEBODY WROTE
YOU CRIED ME A RIVER IN HOPES I COULD SWIM
BUT I DROWNED IN MY SORROW AS OUR LOVE GREW DIM

Thanks so much, I was a Junior in High School when I wrote this. This poem was actually inspired by my youngest brother. He had thrown a ball in the house and broke somehing of my moms. He panicked wanting to super glue what he had shattered. I tried to reason with him saying, THE DAMAGE IS DONE- IT WON'T EVER LOOK THE SAME. Neither one of us had said anything else and my words echoed into my ears slightly different than what I'd said. I reached for my notebook and ten minutes later, this is what became of my mothers keepsake.
