Dad's Speech

Dad's Speech

A Poem by Mrs.Sophrosyne

I've watched the sun sink many times to the sea
and I still remember the words my dad said to me
So now as my gift, because you still have to learn
I'll impart a little wisdom that I had to earn.
I started running without knowing the way
I started to climb to spite what they say
I danced with the devil, heard sirens sing
I walked on the edge just to feel deaths cold sting
I had my troubles, and Girl, you'll have your own
There's a lot of hard work between here and a throne
We may be just human, with a brief time on earth
But we make an impact from the day of our birth
Never stop trying, Girl, don't you give in
Don't quit in the middle, don't go home till you win
If you have to fight, fight to defend
You better not start it, but you best be the end
I raised you a fighter, I raised you up strong
But don't be too prideful to admit when you're wrong
I raised up a little girl, and, God, how you've grown
To be this young woman going out on your own
So what ever you do, where ever you roam
You are my girl, and you'll find your way home
