ExhaustionA Poem by Mrs.Sophrosyne6/3/10 part of a poetry compilation "on addiction" for a Creative Writing course I took this past year. (Title image by Querety http://querety.deviantart.com/)
My eyes have now grown weary,
I've been so long awake And if now i slumber deep, I know my soul he'll take. I won't wake upon the marrow, To sunlight pure and bright The demons'll come to take me In the shadows of the night Their clutching claws molest me Digging deep into my breast So I must continue, Without solace, without rest I called these demons to me They're only fragments of my soul Broken, beaten, battered parts Of what was once a whole. By choice i struck this bargain Made a deal with Devil, Dear And now I must surrender life' To everything i fear Open to my nightmares reliving all the pain and theres no denying I'm the one to blame. I knew this, one day, would come When my debt would come due But still prolonged my suffering Until my time was through. So now I leave you, bid you farewell For my time is growing nigh Before we part, take my advice Don't play with the Devil's High.
