Devil of the HighA Poem by Mrs.Sophrosyne6/1/10 part of a poetry compilation "on addiction" for a Creative Writing course I took this past year.
Tell the truth to no one
never lose the lie never lose the feeling The Devil of the High The tingling in your fingers the stars inside your head the pounding in your eyeballs Dangling by a thread What you'll do just to feel it rising through your arms the needle in your body succumbing to its charms Lying to your mother Stealing from your dad Thriving in your sickness Living to be bad You can never kick it I will always be right here The nasty little habit Every parents fear The always present demon The secret hidden lie The only constant partner The Devil of the High
