![]() The Death of DespairA Poem by Mr. Lopez
At the sight of such vile deformation and horror
Did I taste the ash of despair With each beat of its heart came a ripple of darkness That it was all too eager to share And I being the fool who's so quick to believe That ones word is ones honor as mine Would be torn into unrecognizable shreds By the sour of despair and it's kind Her goal was quite clear though my vision would fade I heard something that sounded like spite Her words cut like steel and her kiss colder still Her embrace lulled me into the night Anchored by grief to the welcoming ground Despair pulled me further down still I fought for each breath and reclaimed my lost sight As I knew that this wasn't Gods will With my last bit of strength I climbed to my feet And I wiped her filth from my face She knew all too well that I'd run for the light And with purpose despair then gave chase With nothing to lose but A smile and my shine I turned to take my last stand Despair did not slow but held fast to her cause Where I stood with my faith in my hand With ax as a crutch and confusion stung heart I swung for the shadows that may Despair shrieked aloud with surprise in her eyes But this time she had nothing to say With a wound that gave birth to such shame and disgust That it fouled the soil at her feet She fell before the mighty power of belief Lost in her maze of deceit © 2016 Mr. LopezReviews
