Old & New

Tragic are words that come with pain,
they bare truth, honesty,
but mostly agony.

In the valley of people,
upon the ruins of yesterday,
tomorrow will be a better day.

A new world at ends,
will surface, and I will be proud to say:
"good bye yesterday".

The first part of your write hit me .. I read it three times before moving forward. Strong words. Powerful. You conveyed such emotion; a rawness, if you will ... moving forward I see the upswing, the strength that is needed to overcome the agony & step on & over - yesterday is done, tomorrow will be better. You let in some optimism. And in the finality - embracing what "is" & "what is yet to be" of the new day, the new tomorrow & letting go of "what was". This is excellent. Really nice job!

I like to read "blindly" - see how the writing hits me; challenges me to think; decode etc:) Then I'll look at notes etc. What I also like about anything written (albeit a poem, story, song, lyric etc) is that its interpretation is left to the reader/listener & is often not what the writer was writing about at all, but is what the reader/listener related it to be. I'm on a tangent, because I read your poem as a commentary on life perhaps, or a relationship in shambles, or a tragic event that may have occurred - when in fact I think you wrote it more about equality & not being "stuck" in any one place or convention :) interpretation ... it is, to me, one of the "fun" things about the written word ... thanks for sharing.

I couldn't agree less. Interpretation doesn't necessarily have to be the accurate point of view, rather something related. To offer some more information regarding this poem, it was written after I learned about communism , where the main message was , lets destroy the old world where pain and agony is and create a new one.

Why thank you very much! It can be also reflected about life, but the main idea behind that, atleast mine's, is the communist vision of creating a better world where everyone's equal on the ruins of the old one.
