Night air in Rio

Night air in Rio

A Poem by Mrembo

Star in the mourning
Moonlight of your eyes sparkling
It’s still. Dark. Silent.

Paralyzing shock
Fills my body with terror
I can’t catch my breath.

Your taste on my tongue
Your body’s shape in my bed
How are you not here?

Night air in Rio
Quickly fuels my thumping head
I can’t bear to stand.

Your hand’s warmth in mine
(Replaced by your skin’s coldness)
I still feel your heat.

A shiver runs through
Shaking off last sanity
Grief’s journey begins.
