When I Was a Kid

How this beautiful girl turned me around...

When I was a kid, I was happy, innocent and the days were long

It was an endless sunny day that was full of laughter and song

I kicked cans, played ball and dreamt dreams of sunshine and rainbows

Never knowing that the happiness & innocence could ever turn to pain though

But then life comes along and takes the happiness and innocence away

You get hurt, you're never the same and life seems like a cloudy day

Ova the years the hurt grows, you grow up and happiness seems to drown

The happy innocent person you once were is nowhere to be found.

The pieces of you that have been broken off along the way

Are a collection of hurts and lessons that are forever in your mind to stay

They make you different, make you alert, hard and course like leather

One at a time they eat you away, until the innocence in you seems gone forever

But every once in a great while you can get lucky and have a second chance

A once in a lifetime opportunity to turn back the clocks, smile and dance

A person comes into your life that is special in every single way

They're everything you've been looking for and take your breath away

A little at a time they pick up all your broken pieces and put you back together

They show you your value, make you laugh and smile and your days that much better

No longer does your life seem like an endless cloudy day

They've brought back the sunshine and rainbows and your desire to play

As the perfect moments pile up, a warmth grows inside of you

Allowing you to dream, smile and laugh again as she sits there beside you

There's no place on earth or with no one I'd rather be

Then with this beautiful girl, who makes me week in the knees

Now I'm a man who's happy, innocent and the days are so long

My life's an endless sunny day that's full of laughter and hip hop songs
