The Other Side

The Other Side

A Poem by Mr. Malarkey
"

Thinking about a former friend

"
There once lived a little red bird
A carefree spirit with a will of iron
Living comfortably in her father's nest
Tucked away from her own responsibilities

All was not sunshine and rainbows
Even for this little one
Her mother lost within a storm of insanity
The rest of her flock, unfond

Despite being wrought with fear
And plagued with complications
This little bird could spit fire
And chirp in defiance to the darkness

But some things will remain absolute
The world is cruel
Fate is a fickle mistress
Defy her if you dare

The little red bird is growing
She isn't so little anymore
Her time is running out
But will she be prepared

It's almost time to decide
Will she fly or fall
Can she be reborn from the ashes
And escape the cage of her reality

She is strong though
I have faith in her
No matter how far she may plummet
There will always be light from above

A wish for the future
I'd like to see her again
And hear her sing again
The song of the phoenix

I'll see you on the other side
