My Monster

My Monster

A Poem by Mr. Lopez

With a kiss and an embrace

She held me fixed within her gaze

Evil is attracted by the color

Of the light

But I feel blind when I am

 Within her sight

My imagination and all my inspiration

Intuition is not my health condition

There in darkness is where she will hide

And my everything was taken for a ride

I knocked and she would

Let me in

That’s where all the trouble

Would begin

I now know where the wild tide goes

I know now where the wild vine grows

The rocks are hard and water wet

She taught me things I won’t forget

The stars that I loved fell

 From the skies

The dreams that I kept would

Leave my eyes

The longer I sat the closer she came

It’s not her fault but only I’m to blame

I’m a victim of my very own mass delusion

Infected with a chronic case of numb confusion

Still I could not make sense

Of it all

No longer trapped within a bottle

she is my monster

alcohol

Wow!! that's an amazing piece Mr. Lopez. ONe of my favorites. I like the idea that this woman you were addicted to was tied to the metaphor of "monster alcohol." here is a part that struck me:

Evil is attracted by the color

Of the light

But I feel blind when I am

Within her sight...

(wow. this is going in my favorites) it's nice to hear a man's point of view on needing and wanting so badly, i know i have many poems on that...hehe

Wow! And that's just what I have to say. Addiction is so strong and you said it in a seductive way, yet what you wanted. I'm wowed by your writing, and getting addicted. KS

First of all this was no less than awesome like your other pieces...each one is fresh and crisp! I'd also like to add that you have some wonderful insights about yourself, and your "monsters"! Thank you so much for sharing parts of yourself!

WOW THIS IS AN AMAZING & VERY STRONG PIECE!!
For a long time my only father figure (step dad) was an alcoholic & it hurt me so bad...I actually struggled with depression,This piece speeks of how strong the bottles hold is on a body.
I'm inspired to right of the pain of the people around this person you wrote of.
You did amazing on this piece!!
Kudos!!

Oh, wow! This is now one of my favorites of yours--and I have so many! Your language is just incredible, and I was very moved by it. Some of my favorite lines:

I now know where the wild tide goes

I know now where the wild vine grows

I don't know why, those are just such great lines. The metaphor, I suppose, is just so fitting, and I "get it."

Also, I loved these:

I'm a victim of my very own mass delusion

Infected with a chronic case of numb confusion

So descriptive!!! Another winner, Mr. Lopez, but always straight from your heart. That's what I love about you! (anyone told you that you rock lately?) :)
