Just Words

Just Words

A Poem by Mr. Lopez

They were just words scribbled onto scratch paper

But those words meant the world to me

It’s not like I had just written a novel

Those words added together equal three

I folded that paper and put it in my pocket

Intending to give them to her that day

Thinking that maybe if she read them

The words would mean more to her in some way

I still have that scratch paper

It’s folded and packed in a box somewhere

I’m not sure why I kept it

Maybe just to remind myself that I care

I never got the chance to give her those words

But even to this day the message holds true

Scribbled on scratch paper and packed in a box

Are those three little words ……..

” I Love You”

Ah! How did I miss this one? It's marvelous! :)

So romantic... yet full of sadness ML.
This brought a tear to my eye.. it truly did.

Love, such a complex thing.
On the one hand I often say that all we
need is love -- and though I mean that --
it can be so conflicting and tormenting.
Yet, only it seems, when we are without it,
never when we actually have it. So, I guess
my original thought still holds true.

This is a wonderful poem my friend.
You really pull your reader into your heart
with you -- and that's a gift.

Goosebumps. I could feel the emotion, bubbling with excitement in the first verse. I do wonder why you never gave it to her. I could sense your sadness, the loneliness at the end, really made me think of all that is unsaid. Why do we hold it in? Fear perhaps?

if this is block its still honest, and the honesty creates its own flow to the words. there deep and touching. the question left unanswered at the end but that sense of longing is beautiful. goregous piece.

Seems to be an old fashioned "I Love You" poem, not one of my favorites - but very has some deep meaning to it. My question, why did you never give this to her?

Nice poem to say the less.

A sweet loving poem, well written with great flow and rhyme and such deep meaning. As far as your block and your "reaching" I only wish I could do so well on my best days. Well done, a very nice read. ;)

Apparently those words meant more than any others in the world ever could...but I wonder if you were afraid to give them to her out of a kind of fear...that the feelings were not the same for her...or any other thing that stopped you from releasing them into her hands. I would say at some point there was a time you could have given them. Just never did. You keep them to remind yourself of love you had in your heart for another. Blessings to you.
