Mixed Blessings

Mixed Blessings

A Poem by Mr. Lopez

It’s sad how I found out

That a good heart can go bad

It’s true that I’ve grown

 From the heartaches I’ve had

It’s good that I see

 That what’s happened to me

As a blessing from God

To a certain degree

Without God I would be

 Strung out for sure

Thinking that somehow

The drugs were the cure

Next to my bed

Would be a revolving door

With nameless faces

Who would use me some more

But that’s not the direction

 That I choose to go

Instead I’ve chosen God

And with him I will grow

I notice the lessons

That he’s teaching to me

As building blocks for my spirit

That will set my soul free

No longer a slave to addiction

And shame

No longer a token

 For othere’s to blame

So…..thank you God

For forgiving my sins

This is now where

My new life begins

Again.... awesome!!!

ML... you are becoming quite the insprirational writer! In the short time I've known you here, you've progressed from gloom... to bloom. So wonderful... !

Thank you my friend! I truly love your work!
The darker writes too ... expression is oxygen.

:) Peace, Dani

It may not be what you inteneded, but it the path it took is a powerfully wonderous one as it is.
Choosing faith over practicle quick fixes can be difficult at times. To show that you have choosen the harder road to walk, show true character and a sense of honest caring about your own, and those around you, welfare.

Wonderful Piece!

One note - 7th stanza last line "Other's" ??

God does indeed use all of our heartache and pain to bring us to Him. Though I don't believe He is the author of it necessarily since many times we suffer consequences from our own choices, hard times definitely cause us to look up and reach out for help. Most of us have had our drugs of choice and they come in many forms, but every earthly comfort falls short-at least, for me.

Bam! You have said so much here and each word was an encouragement. Thank you!

You are on a beautiful journey and the journey shines all over this page.

To go back to the drugs would only be twice as painful and harder to get back out of, as you know I am going through this now.

Your poem speaks to me as a source of strength. To be able to read the words of another recovering addict offers me hope. The best advice in this poem is that of reaching to God. For me to hand my life over to God, I am assured a bright future. No longer will I be lurking in the shadows of filth and degradation.

Once again, thanks for sharing! You give me so much inner comfort through your words. I am grateful!

Such a beautiful expression. I love the echo of resilience built into your words and the way you have chosen to overcome your difficulties reflects your courage and determination. God is always with us, but it is up to us to listen.

A thoroughly uplifting piece.

I enjoy how much God has affected your life.
It is so important that people have faith.
It is what saves life.
Even if there is nothing you will always believe that there is something.
And thats what keeps us going.
I enjoyed reading this.
Though I'm not sure what my relationship with him is right now.
I know that he's there for me when I need him.
Even if some days I don't want him there.
