"And the award goes to........"

"And the award goes to........"

A Poem by Mr. Lopez

As I count all the grains of sand

That I can fit into my hand

I wonder if this was all part

                       Of her master plan?

One thousand………..

           Two thousand…………

                   Three thousand……….

                              Four………………

Can my heart even take one thousand more?

No wonder why she had so many tears

                             In her soft eyes.

It must be hard to go through life

                             Carrying so many lies.

Why is the truth such a hard thing

                   For some people to give?

Because behind their lies is how

              Some people choose to live.

    Five thousand ……

            Six thousand……….

                  Seven thousand……..

                             Eight…………….

How dare I have a vision

For a life that could be great!

Who do I think I am

       Begging her to communicate?

The nerve of me to say

            That I would walk away.

To avoid all this destruction

           And the disarray.

I guess she thought the truth

             Just wasn’t meant for me

Instead more fitting to destroy my life

             And now I see.

If one day we both knew

That things would go this way.

Would we have had the strength to

            Say goodbyes that day?

“Congratulations!”

They say while their handing me my prize.

I am the recipient of an award

For believing the most lies!

I feel my prize

         Slowly………

                 Slipping through my hand.

My award is in the form

Of a thousand grains of sand.

love the ending, very powerful and just wraps the whole piece up. Also a very strong metaphor that fits perfectly.. I completely agree! This is one of those "sometimes when you win.. you really lose." instances.. well thought out and followed through! Awsome! ok.. I'm running out of adjectives... lol

Nice format to begin with. I love your side of the girl who tells lies. You envision how she must not be able to look in the mirror, perhaps she will find her way one day. Only God knows.

This would be very interesting if you could write a poem from her side.

That is actually amazing. The wisdom, the wording...everything about it was incredible. With a talent like that you can go very, very far.

amazing work !

Now this one is wow! Yes, it's saddening to want something of substance to hold onto and instead you get what will not hold for long; what slips away from your grasp because it never really was, like an illusion done by a skilled magician; a slight of hand trick meant to fool you. But more's the blow to be chastised for wanting truth, for wanting a reasonable valuable to any relationship and turning it against you as if it were a crime. Not unreasonable! A requirement! You did this one well.

This was a wonderful way to tell a tragic story!
You made the sand come out of the page like an hourglass breaking and filling my mind up with these numerous grains, that I could see just how momentously horrible it must have been to exist near such a person who lies like that.

Lies are the worlds greatest enemy, second only to greed perhaps.

A great Write! First Prize in my mind!

As with many of your works, you reach out and touch, or perhaps grab the reader with such feeling, such emotion and yet still manage to write with flow, rhyme and such beautiful imagery. It is true, lies once started seem to grow on and on and on, just as you say, like grains of sand as far as the eye can see. A superb well written poem. ;)

Nice metaphors used in this poem...
i enjoyed it very much and admire how you compare lies to grain of sand and how they can slip through you're hands so easily

I love this poem the best. It is AMAZING! I can truley relate to this because I have alot of lies that I hide from people that are close to me and when they get close to finding out I cover it with more lies. I don't know why people do this but I congradulate (sry bout the spelling) you for writing such a great poem. Great job, keep writing.

The very first line drew me in and kept me captivated throughout the whole thing.

I enjoyed this verse, too.
