Open Road

Open Road

A Poem by Mr. Lopez

The road to recovery

is a winding endless road

pay attention to directions

and the advice that you are told

On the road to recovery

You’ll see signs to dead ends

That are usually put there

By old party friends

Who could care less where tomorrow

We might end up

But more importantly

What you have for their cup

If you take one of these detours

What you’ll find is the same

Some end up leaving

The same way they came

Back to recovery

A long open road

If you take it you may find

What it means to grow old

I applaud you for being on the road to recovery! Keep on keeping on, my friend! You will never regret your choice. I admire your determination, my friend. It is so easy to fall prey to any addiction. It doesn't take any effort to fall again and again, but it takes courage, faith and determination to say "No" and stay on the path. Good job!

Recovery may be a never ending journey but a worthwhile one. I think the second paragraph says so much and rings so very true. You always have to watch out for that "detour sign" and you are correct,a "dead end" sign would most likely be put there by an old "friend". Good luck on your journey friend.

This is fantastic and speaks absolute truth! I have a fam member who took this road and in doing so had to let go of all of her old friends. I think that was the key to her success this time, as opposed to the repeated failures prior.

Such an inspirational and informative write!!

And yes, there is ALWAYS hope for a better life. Hope and Faith, will take you to places and heights never thought possible.... every time.

Thank you for sharing this :)
