The concrete boots of addiction will take you to the bottom of many a pint of poison. Always staggering from clouded day to clouded day. Hiding from reality, one bottle at a time. An easy way to mask your pain and make you troubles fade away.
Just because your feet fit in those boots doesn’t mean you have to wear them. Release your grip of complete control and only then will you fully know just how blind you’ve been. The gift that you give yourself is peace. 24 hours at a time. Resentment dissolves and falls away. Restored once again into serenity but never completely free. Always just a step ahead of the demons that if given the chance, will surely take your life. With a clear head and open heart. It’s a chance you take. A choice you make. To live again . A shell you break. Inside you’ll find ….the best you that you have ever been.
for the person with an addictive personality, sobriety can be the hardest mountain in life to climb because you never really make it to the top. An every day challenge to yourself to stay clean for another 24.

"Restored once again into serenity but never completely free. Always just a step ahead of the demons that if given the chance, will surely take your life" ...ALWAYS in recovery!! I was once weighed down by addiction and alcoholism- I have been sober for almost 3 years now!
This was excellently written, a perfect way to reach out and encourage those who are trying to take that 1st step, or the ones trying to stay "dry".
We all wear concrete boots of some kind...the trick is to not let the concrete climb like a choking ivy vine into your heart and hardening you to any possiblity of change and a better life. You are doing a good thing here. Kudos!
The first sentence is powerful. Delving into the insight of concrete boots (how strong they should be), taking a person to rock bottom. An addict is not a happy person, as we know. The drugs, the alcohol, are only quick fixes for that which lies ahead. Such a repetitive game of russian roulette. I enjoyed reading this, as you give me encouragement and wisdom in times that knock me to my knees. I have always loved a challenge, so yeah, I want this challenge - to stay clean for another 24. Or how about another 60 seconds. Good write! Your words mean a lot to me.
