Plug the jug

Plug the jug

A Poem by Mr. Lopez
"

The party's over

"

The little brown jug contained so very much fun and is faithfully there til the end.

Passed round the campfire with a laugh and a smile until one day he brought death to a friend.

By now I should know better from years of indulgence of what once was so harmless indeed.

When added to the menu, his cousin of temptress is also known to many as weed.

From first taste I knew love and committed to stay so as long as the trip was still fun

But troubles it brought me and those troubles were not free, so now to those cousins “I’m done”

Life lessons overcome are nothing to be ashamed of...you're right! They are events that form the better person of ourselves that we are supposed to find. Without the experience how then do we appreciate the best of who we become after? It may seem like fun to indulge in the seeming taboo of some things we allow ourselves in life, but in the long run...something has got to wake us up and most times it isn't easy; or never happens for the unlucky. You were the lucky one. That is something to be proud of! Blessings!

This poem has nothing to do with shame. This is about the the distructive power of drugs and alcohol. Something that we all learn about at our own pace. I am proud of having learned my lessons as i did , be they a hard lesson to learn. Making them more valuable still. Having lost a young friend to a drunken car accident and another very talented friend to drug overdose, coming close to death myself I can say from experience , that when used in excess they can be quit dangerous .Thank you for your reviews.

This poem has a witty feel to it. Looking deeper into your words, you reflect on the past days of laughter. How ironic that a substance can cause so much laughter with an end result of tears and heart break. You show a personal growth of wisdom in this write. Your closure of this poem is just that - closure!!!
