Who Am I

Who Am I

A Poem by Mr. Lopez
"

A poem of addiction

"

I am young and in charge

I am a believer in love

I am a lover of life

I am an addict of love

I am just curious

I am a lover of drugs

I am a drinker of sin

I am a sinner on drugs

I am lost and confused

I am weak and a slave

I am lost and ashamed

I am a child of pain

I am destroying myself

I am stuck on stupid

I am scared and alone

I am an addict

As an addict, this is who I am also. I love the play on words too. It's short and the wrods themselves are the power. It's the struggle we all go through in recovery as we battle to change who we were and found out who we are. There's passion in your words, and I am happy they seem to me to be devoid of selff-loathing. "We will not regret the past nor wics to shut the door on it.". As an addict I love it, I've been there. As a wannabe poet I am in awe!
Beautifully depicted!

I really enjoyed this. As the child of an addict I can understand the emotion of the addict because I have seem both of my parents fall so far. Thank you for sharing this.

you really know how to get inside people's hearts and make them
feel like they aren't alone.... i think that this was written like a true addict would
write it... i can relate to it, some of my friends do drugs, but they are still my best friends...

I think it's very well thought out. As an addict in recovery - this slammed me.

I was going to hi-light what lines stood out for me - but it was the WHOLE thing.

I think that this is excellent.

Okay then - these really stood out for me

"I am a child of pain
I am destroying myself
I am stuck on stupid
I am scared and alone
I am an addict..."

Love this:

"Young and in charge" - Isn't it funny how we think we know all the answers when we are young. Being in charge, not listening to guidance, puts us 10 steps behind. I know you have acquired wisdom just from this line.
"I am just curious" - A soul that loves to explore and find new things. Keyword: thrill seeker. Oh, how seeking thrills, wanting that "rush" causes us to stumble. On our face, we know to well!
"I am a lover of drugs" - Strength in admitting this. Yes, drugs can become our best lovers and worst lovers.

I could go on and on. In a short poem (that I do feel is thought out) - you point out some of the main characteristics, trials, hurts, etc. of an addict. Good write!!! Keep it up!
