LEGACY OF REGRET

LEGACY OF REGRET

A Poem by Matt Thompson
"

Something asking what are we really leaving behind for our children and the generations to come.

"

LEGACY OF REGRET
Weep not for us,
but for our children.
Our selfishness becomes their sorrow.
Our hate becomes their curse.
The blood we shed shall taint their innocence.
Our lust for agony breeds sorrow in their eyes.
In their hearts, they mourn us,
for we have lost our way.

Their cries for mercy ring out
as our hand paints bruises on their tiny bodies.
We speak of second chances, while they're torn from wombs,
never given one chance to live.
Is this the legacy we leave?
Cast our regret on their name.
They thirst,
and we give them venom.

Weep not for us,
but for our children,
for our plague is their sorrow.
