TARNISHED ANGEL

TARNISHED ANGEL

A Poem by Matt Thompson

“TARNISHED ANGEL”
We fell in love, with the allure of the stardust.
Entranced by the glitter, enslaved to the whispers of screams
We lay in sorrow, consumed by shame of naked beauty.
Consume of the dying flesh: drink the tainted blood,
Bow in servitude to idols of thilthy skin.

I long for God’s kiss, but spread my soul like a w***e
I try and sing as the angels, but choke on the vomit of impurity.
My wings are tarnished, my halo corroded, I grasp my disgrace,
When my hands should be reaching to caress the face of God.

The bells toll, silencing the broken strings of the harp,
Naked and shamed, Sacred God, take the curse of flesh from me.
With blinded eyes I seek the beauty in sorrow,
Severing the bond of God and man.

Dying corpse, you cling to me.
Rotting flesh, may you be damned.
Weak and frail hands reach to touch the lips of God.
Condemned to the guilt of the Pharisees, my silent voice curses my birth.

I long for God’s kiss, but spread my soul like a w***e
I try and sing as the angels, but choke on the vomit of impurity.
My wings are tarnished, my halo corroded, I grasp my disgrace,
When my hands should be reaching to caress the face of God.
