REQIUEM FOR THE TORMENTEDA Poem by Matt Thompson
REQIUEM FOR THE TORMENTED
Remnants of my wings smolder charred ashes are all that remains. My halo, once beautiful, Now nothing more than meaningless corrosion and tarnish. And my spirit, at one time a sacred innocence, now a w***e taken for granted. Thorns pierce my side, Leaving infected sores. My tongue thirsts for your water, as my dry, cracked hands reach for your mercy. My throat chokes on ashes of prayers gasped in agonizing sorrow. My God be upheld in my torment. Whisper soothing mercy in ears of deafness. Blessed be, the damned. Blessed be, innocence condemned. Blessed be, the sorrow stricken souls, for we shall inherit eternal beauty.
