HeatherA Chapter by Kelsey DWhat is this place? It seems so familiar. Like I've been here before. Have I been anywhere before? I look around and see paintings of different places and there is a cat. I smooth it down, “Hello there, I am Bruno. It is very nice to meet you.” What a friendly cat. Why am I so shocked he can talk. Do all cats talk? Are they all British? “May I ask your name?” “My name is Heather.” I think it's Heather. If I said it, it must be my name. Why would I say it if it wasn't my name? “Where am I?” “I am not sure. We like to call in an apartment.” Is this cat getting fresh with me? I think he is. “I can see that it's an apartment. How did I get here?" “You walked into the bright light. That how you get where you need to go.” The cat jumps down from hes place by the window. It is dark and the lights of the city are beautiful against the sky's backdrop. I wonder if there are any people here? The cat said we, so there must be more. “You said 'we'? Are there more people around?” I sit down on the couch. I feel scared. Maybe lonely. I think maybe I feel sad. Why am I sad? This place seems nice. Very colourful. “There is another girl who lives here. Her name is Moirae. She had a job to do. I feel you are going to get jobs too. For now, just rest and try to be at peace.” This cat seems to be smarter than me. Are cats the higher race? Am I the cats pet? “Are you in charge here?” I ask. “No, I am just a cat who can talk.”He says as he jumps on the couch next to me, circles a few times lays down. “We are going to be great friends I can tell.” “I think so too.” I have to be somewhere. I can't stay here. This is not my home is it? No, there is something missing. Something important. Something I can't forget. I must leave. I get up and walk to the door. “I wouldn't do that. If you step out there you might never find your way back. You may spend a long time looking for the door to the place you are looking for. You will know if it is the right time to go when you get the sign.” What is this place? “What kind of sign am I looking for? Like a big yellow one with flashing lights?” “You'll know when you see it.” I look around the whole room looking for any clue of what I should do. I see nothing. I look down in despair and see a red envelope. I pick it up and open in. In side is a note that reads 'Threw the door next to the kitchen is what you need.' I walk to the door and inside is the largest ball of string I have ever seen. Have I seen other balls of string before? If so is this one really that much bigger? This is my sign. I will tie this around my waist so no matter what I can find my way back here. I do just that. As I walk away I notice it turns easily as I pull on it. The cat wanted a sign, I'll give him a sign. This is more of a set up. How perfect. I walked into the living room. The cat stares at me while I walk to the front door. “Good luck. I hope to see you again. I have a feeling to are going to do great things.” “Thank you. I wish I knew what I was looking for.” I turn the door knob, pull on the string a few time to make sure everything is still working okay. “What you are looking for finds you when you stop looking for it.” Is everything a riddle here? Is there no such thing as a straight answers? I open the door and step into the bright light. © 2014 Kelsey D |
