The African bride (ii)

The African bride (ii)

A Poem by Mosunmola Adeniyi

Hop hop hop she goes
But now on a slow pace
Soothing songs and eulogies in control over lips and tongues
Buttocks flapping sideways to complement the mood
Euphoria on a dive in earnest
Beckons from behind as she comes close
Splashes like showers grease her feet as she steps over in her facial coverings

Reign of supplications on the elders' account
Kolanuts after being cracked pave way for the bestowal of benedictions
Honey surging out of the jar to follow suite
The bride in a bit to let the calabash out broken
Whilst the blissful moon and stars beam over the earth

The strong room with open doors torn apart placed an urge for entry
unending songs forming from behind
And slamming of doors in high anticipation
Strikes on the run while awaiting the checks and balance

Wines in glass cycle
Drums in continuity to grace the night
At c**k crow when eyes opened
Noise forging ahead with great delight
Purity becomes the turn out
The joy of womanhood
With appreciation showers on parents
Union solidifies as she advances.
