The African bride (i)

The African bride (i)

A Poem by Mosunmola Adeniyi

The day seems so naive with seemingly cold views
Scuttle on course
Rowdiness overlaps the order of the day
Petty dealings in transact places
Gracious morning at its peak
Glow on the now with hopes for luminosity on the morrow

Calabashes tumbling down my swollen feet
Cowries playing hide and seek on a just cause
Perspires holding up and dragging down my spine
Pretty blossoms in feague for a natural outlook
Fresh palm wine competing in a drink and drink contest
With sages on a drinking tour at the hour of the day

Adventure on portrays with enthusiastic offsprings
Tussles to and fro in a bit to suit the guests
Giggles and sighs in fill of the whole milieu
Home broods in obsession with squatting and hopping
Night draws a curtain while the twilight absconds
The time hisses as the crowd adjusts to take a view

And there she was
Gracefully fitted in her ceremonial outlook
With rows of cowries bind beneath her ankles
Nature itself attests to her nicely weaved hair in parted dimensions
The alluring jewel on a step forth
Cohorts and friends on cheer and solace
Sheer ambivalence catches up with the princess
as tears slides down her protrude visage
She grits a great deal of smile as she strides
