Earth's Black BlanketA Poem by Diana LynnI
sit upon my creaky, old porch, watching
silently as the sun slowly falls back
upon the world, darkness creeping over
the sullen land.
I
shiver slightly as the cold air follows
the darkness, playing tag on my lawn, while
the minutes go by and
the sleeping time is close at hand.
I
pull my sweater closer against my body, keeping
warm and I look up into
the sky, the big, black sky with
millions of radiant dots covering
her beautiful, dark face.
I
begin to get up, slowly but surely, when
my mother calls me in, taking
one last glimpse at
the beautiful outer space.
