illusions of time

illusions of time

A Poem by Verser
"

Perception is all.

"
she hesitates to step
in the places he would gallop:
currier and Ives camptown race
saratoga steeplechase

she wants the moon lantern-hung
while he would have it flung
fast track to the waiting dawn
O this life is too short, too long.

i really like the last line..."life is both at times.."

too short or too long...depending.

this is are really good analogy about opposite people..

i really like the overall piece.

she is careful, thoughtful...he is the kind who just plunges full steam ahead without thinking...they butt heads often enough. but maybe balance each other out.

It's amazing, really, how we perceive time without often thinking about it. Talk about relative!

In all of my trials and tribulations with the topic of compatibility, I have pondered the truths behind both "like attracts like," and "opposites attract." Here is my take, simplified: when we are immature, we want soemone to fulfill us, and we seek to be made whole, we source our love in lack; thus in our opposite. When we are immature, we seek to share our joy with someone similar, whose energy matches ours. That is th ekey, I think: that energy match. If she hangs the moon with as much longing, precision, care, and purpose as he expends at Saratoga, they have a chance. Even as opposites. Maybe?

Yes. Thank you!
Hm, this is quite intriguing, really. Rather than talking about specific people you seem to be talking to the gender itself perhaps? Or the myraid types people come in? Theirs a lot of depth to this in such a short piece. It invokes thought, and that of course is the mark of great writing.

Thanks, Josh!
Brief& to the point. You have brought out the opposite nature of a man & a woman perfectly - one wants the moon hung like a lantern while the other wants it flung, one is reckless while the other is careful. And the perception of time is shown beautifully _ the same time fame is either too long for someone or too short for someone else

Thanks, Onku, and you are certainly right on all points. Much appreciated.

I love the way you weaved the time here, the juxtaposition between the two points of views. It is good and perceptive of the poet to have recognized it, brought it on home. Shared it with us.

Thank you, Diego. I am looking forward to an e-mail from you!

Best to you!
There's quite a depth to this brief post; different worldly needs, perhaps different thoughts re. future togetherness. Must be that old gender thing, the accepted constraints versus the impulsive throw aways.. the more i read it the more different views i find. Perhaps i need to stop and think of time on my hands

Kinda sounds like he and she shouldn't be together, ever
They say opposites attract .. but I don't think that is always true
We should see eye to eye about something
If we plan on spending a long time with someone..
My husband and I saw so many things in the same way
We both respected life .. and knew how to love
Only one thing we never truly shared .. Hunting ..

I like the rhythm .. and the rhyme ..
The Moon-lantern line
And the title, illusions of time
