Over Easy

Over Easy

A Poem by Morteica

Young un’,
Over easy instead of hard boiled, you walked
Under the sidewalk until you finally reached my beginning with
Venom displacing itself in your footsteps and

Evening already on your lips.

Lean in a bit now, Darling.
Early tomorrow the moon will dance with the sun until
Feathers from white doves drift silently to the shore.
The water laps at your ankles. The feathers stick to your toes. You see,

Memories are always bittersweet,
Even if you add a tad of honey to the bile. So tonight

Absence rides sweet on your tongue. You
Gouge a path in the sand an
Arm’s length from any thoughts that could
Ignite the charcoal left over from the
Night we claimed the universe as ours. And I’ve

Left. The water calls. The

Ocean sings and I’ve gone to beg the moon and tie feathers in my hair. You

Veer from me like oil.

Evening fades fast.
